auto or manual chip - does it make a difference?
I just found a really good deal on a ads chip - $20 and brand new in the box - I have a 91 z with 305 and its with the T5 - the chip is for a 92 305 but the guy's not sure if it is for a manual tranny or not (he got it off some guy that had sold his car and never put the chip in) - so basically i just wanted to know if the tranny setup made much of a difference. Thanks - Alan

Yes, the tranny setup does make a difference. Among all the differences the most notable one is the coding for the Torque Converter clutch. However, with all of that said I have never tried an Auto chip in a manual car. Has anyone else tried this? I'll see what I can find out and then I'll get back to this post.

I have
I think besides the TCC part and no longer having a shiftlight, the spark curves will be a little different... but the MAIN thing thats a little funky is IAC operation at light part throttle (i think) im actually running an auto chip in my car right now just been a little lazy to swap to a 5 speed bin but it runs fine

I would say the auto chip will work in the manual car but the manual chip will not work well in a auto car. It was mentioned above. the manual car chip programming leave all teh TCC variables blank. TCC lockup. As for the timing maps I never compared that deeply. But I would agree on the above post that the maps may be a little different. the chip may be a good start for programming though
