Custom or not ?

My combination of american horsepower and a jap car(see signature) have led me here for answers. I hope I'm welcome :-). I'm kinda assuming that with the combo I have, an off the shelf PROM would be useless. Anyone disagree? I don't have to run a cat, the car weighs around 2500 lbs., 3.54 diff., etc. All these things have me seriously thinking about trying to learn to program myself.
Anybody think I'm nuts yet?? :-)
Suggestions, comments, anyone??....

Anyway, I do have one silly question that's bugging me - is the final drive ratio
adjusted in the PROM or the VSS buffer?
I hit the speed limiter (when it's not switched off :-) ) at 82 mph with the final drive and tire size I have.
Thanks in advance, Jeff

I would certainly think you are welcome. The VSS buffer is what handles the final drive ratio. I can't tell you how to modify it to accomdate your new axle ratio.

Unlike the newer Flash ECMs the old 730s, 165s, 747s, etc do not have a way to modify the actual drive ratio to compensate for different gear ratios ... at least not to my knowledge. If someone here knows differently please post Anyhow - in order to compensate for the 3.73s in my car I had to swap speedo gears in the tranny.
