'88 chip in '89 TPI ??

I have a jet chip in my GTA. If you have seen a Jet chip, you know that the factory chip plugs into the side of it, then the two chips plug into the ECM. My question is, will it matter if I usa an '88 model 305 factory chip in an '89 model 350? I did not plan this, but for some reason the car had an Art Carr performance chip in it. The Art Carr chip has a sticker on it that says it is for an '88 305 TPI. Would that chip affect my starting? Did all '88 305 TPI's have a cold start injector?

I definitely would not recommend running that 305 chip in the 350. Will it work? Probably. Will it work well ... heck no. The '89 code is $6E and does NOT depend on the cold start injector. The '88 code is $32B and and does depend on the cold start injector. Furthermore, this has been mentioned in many of the previous posts ... the 305 code is significantly different in terms of the spark and fuel tables as compared to the 350 code. Also ... are both chips for an automatic? Using a manual chip in an automatic can cause problems with the TCC lockup since the TCC lockup depends on params in the chip.

Just reburn the '88 chip with the '89 ARAP image located on diy-efi.org or on Mike Davis' site.

Thanks for the input TRAXION. I didn't intend to run that chip, but that is what was in the car when I bought it. I don't have the factory chip. I think this may be part of my extended crank times I have been trying to fix.

I run the ARAP code with my stock 305, and it works well. Just had to change the FI sizing. You won't have to. That's another thing, if that 305 chip was trying to drive the 350 injectors, it could have been a problem. As for the cold start, the '89 algorithm is much nicer than the valve in terms of smooth startup, even though your problem was definitely associated with lack of both algorithm and valve...
