Another vette chip question.

Got my 500 miles breakin done on the chicken motor using the old Stage 3 305 5-speed chip - whatever stage 3 is..(shrugs head in disgust - previous owners line of BS while purchasing car).
So now I'll be looking to find a decent chip for this vette headed L98. Other posts leave me to believe I could probably use an off the shelf manual trans '89 vette chip with some success. I got an '86 auto vette ecm and chip at home but I'm not tempted to even try them.
So just to see what you think... home ported vette heads with SS valves, comp cams 264HR cam. SLP 1 3/4 headers, edelbrock TPI base, SLP runners, 49 psi fuel pressure on 22 lb injectors and non-functional egr. I usually run 180 thermostats and 200/185 fan switches but I could change that too. I just like the good heat with the t-tops off and the superior ring-wear for mostly street driving. So far it runs good... just looking to get all the I's dotted and T's crossed. Would an off the shelf hypertech or similar brand work good enuf or should I be talking to a custom chip maker?
Also, I had a problem with high idle speeds (1500 and above) for a few seconds before coming to a full stop. I reconnected the throttle body coolant loops (ie: threw out the TB bypass) and the problem subsided. Do any of you custom tune your chips with lower temps in the idle tables to account for a lower MAT temperature?

IMHO - I would get a custom chip. You're already running the 305 chip and you are looking to 'fix' the situation. Might as well fix it correctly by getting a chip that will work well with your setup. But, make sure you talk to someone that can REALLY help you.

Brian,

I suggested a custom chip due to the cam that you are running. But, if you don't have the cashola at this point then buying a stock '89 Vette manual chip should do the trick for you. However - a custom chip is still the best option due to your modifications.
