Does the computer leave a trace on the PROM?

Hey I got a Chip that I bought of a a guy on thirdgen....the chip doesn't work with my car. It matches everything execpt the computers were differer. ( somthing he forgot to mention, and since I am new at this....I thought they were all the same) Well any way the companay said they would exchange the chip if there isn't a VIN burned on the chip. Now my question is. Would his car have put a vin or some kind of info in the chip? If so, would mind have overwrote it? Any help would be greatly appreciated

Maybe they store the VIN in some unused part of chips that they custom-write for a specific vehicle?

Otherwise, it wouldn't make any sense. The ECM itself does not know, or care, what the VIN is of its host vehicle, and even if it did it wouldn't be able to write it to the chip!

I read you have to disable the checksum in the chip. Otherwise the ecm does a checksum and if the ecm and chip do not match the car will not start.
