Moreover, once you've erased it while still soldered, how do you reprogram it? I've got an idea I want to try. You can buy a clamp-on test clip that goes over the top of the IC, it essentially extends the IC pins to the top of the test clip, so you could then probably clamp the test clip leads into the chip reader's ZIF socket. Anybody try this already, or have a similar idea?

Digi-Key has a series of headers in their catalog, Get the 60 pin one (makes two that way really cheap) cut it in half, and then trim it so that it plugs into the 28 pins of the eprom, then spread the *headers* legs far enough apart to fit in the prom burner
No soldering adding ZIFs or any of that.
And you have a spare, the exact part no is at the DIY / GMECM archives

The tech article I wrote gives instructions and the DigiKey header part number for creating the adapter to burn the ERPROM while it is still in the carrier.

For erasing the EPROM while it is in the carrier just look back into the previous posts on this list. We covered this not too long ago.

Lower left corner of the page. This doesn't define any terms, but it'll at least let you see what we're talking about
