I have an 87IROC as you can see in the sig, how do i go about finding which eprom i need to start writing my chips? I have all of the other info(writer, eraser and software). I just don't understand what i'm looking for on the suggested chip sites that Tim suggested in his "learning to program 101".
He gave a couple of companies webpages that sells them but i don't have the slightest idea to which chip i need.

you have the 1227165. those 2 sites should help get you started. some of the others on the board will be able to help you more. im still learnign myself.
you need a BIN file for your setup.and the software to edit the bin. the first link should be all you really need now.

Your computer should have a 27c128 chip....on very rare occasions GM used a 27c256 chip(although I have never personally seen it) If so, I have been told you write the same .bin to the upper and lower addresses. hth's....btw if it is a 27c256 you will get differing checksums every time you read it.
