Wish me luck and a question
Hi guys, just finished my "cable" and got my toughbook with win ADL to connect to my truck. It is a '72 with a 700 r4(non TCC) and a 383 with mid 70's smog heads ( large chamber ) and the COP car bin and injectors. I have a complete F body xx46 system on it, including the small Dizzy, esc, a reed type cable driven VSS and a single wire O2 (NB) mounted in the left header collector (oh yeah I left off the EGR and purge system). the only thing is I am not certain of a few things on this engine. I installed the TBI system and wired up the truck, but I was away when my father started this project, and he had someone else build the engine. I do not know the engines compression ration or cam specs.
My father has passed and I dont even know who built the engine, I also dont relish the idea of tearing it down to cc the heads and check the deck height.
With enough data logging and making a few assumptions and some testing of these assumtions will I be able to get a handle on this thing ?
The performance has fallen off some and I am thinking that I should do a leakdown test as it runs lean enough and had a pretty severe header leak at one pint that I fear I may have burned a valve. Not only that I need it to be in a good state of tune to baseline from. I did notice one thing tonight though, (was blocked in so didn't drive it just a neutral run) is that I was never able to see any BLM/OS/INT cell above the 40 KPA area. as a matter of fact the highest obsevred KPA (from the sensor data page) even when slapping the throttles closed was about 38 and a steady 825 RPM idle was like 36. It seems to idle fairly stable and doesn't seem to have a "rumpity" cam in it... is this about a normal area to be in ?
One other question, in WINADL when selecting the ECM type you are given the option of selecting the 0 TPS voltage I left mine default and noticed I was off ... (steady state idle was indicating 4.6%) I know I should correct my 0 and WOT settings, but does this affect anything other than the TPS percentage reading of the program ?
Thanks
Dan
PS can't wait till I have saved enough for an EBL
