Will a Hypertech chip work for my car until I can learn to burn my own chip??
I'm starting my 383 Stroker TPI project soon and I know I'm going to need a different chip in my car! I don't know anything yet about programming my own chip so I'm wondering if a hypertech chip will work for my car until I can learn to burn my own chip?? Here's the basics of what my engine will be.......383 Stroker w/TPI, headers, Aftermarket 64cc heads with a 200cc runner, port matched intake, street/strip comp cam, TPIS airfoil, adjustable fuel pressure regulator and 24 lb/hr injectors!! I know that everyone here is going to "recommend" a custom chip but I know this already! I just plain and simply want to know if I can use a Hypertech chip UNTIL I can get a custom EPROM!

1986 Trans AM
305 TPI
4 Wheel Discs
9 bolt Borg Warner Rear
Completely Stock
Soon to upgrade to a 383 stroker w/TPI, Hedman Shorty Headers, 64cc Pocket Ported Worlds Product Sportsman-II heads, ported intake, comp cam, TPI air foil, Adjustable Fuel Pressure Regulator, possibly bigger injectors!
Current project: Keeping my car running until I get the money for the above mentioned project! :-)

You're better off with the stock chip, because the Hypertech chip wont make your car run any better than it will. Save your money.

I agree with Kevin, these "off-the-shelf" eproms do very little. You will accomplish more by modifying your fuel pressure and adjusting the base time using your stock eprom than any "off-the-shelf" eprom.
The two biggest changes I see that you need done quickly is 1) adjust the Cylinder Volume of your engine for the larger displacemnt and 2) adjust the Injector Flow Constant.

Save your money. I agree. Hypertech chips will do nothing to help in the areas that you need help due to the mods that you have.
