fouled spark plugs?

alright i have a 91 Trans Am with msd 6al box, blaster coil, catback exhuast, no cats, an HSR intake, a comp cams XR282HR cam(.510 in, .520 ex, with 230in, 236ex duration), studded heads, 8mm plug wires, and some autolite platniums. so this setup is NOT tunned yet and it is having some stumbling problems in the lower rpms. well i am getting fouled spark plugs after about a thousand miles and they are really black but they don't have oil on them. i was just wondering if it not being tunned could make it foul the spark plugs like this? don't know alot about the way the computer plays with things. any ideas or help would be nice. Thanks

Yes, with those changes and no tuning the plugs would be fouling out. Way tooo much fuel at lower RPMs. Are you planning on some DIY tuning for it?

awesome thats kinda what i thought. glad to hear it wasn't something way bad. ok one more little question, my car is smoking a little blackish smoke on startup and sometimes in the low rpms, should i attribute this to the really rich condition i am having at low rpm. it smells alot like gas so i was thinking thats what it was. will tuning also take care of this? i know i need to get it tuned soon and kinda want to do the diy tunning but it sounds hard. i am pretty good with the computer and might be able to catch on. i think i will just do it myself, that sounds like a challenge.

Yea the black puffs you see are attributed to running overly rich. A little DIY Tuning should be just what the doctor ordered. Tuning isn't hard just takes time and patience to get it right...Which i am still far from.
