Why won't scanners read S&P chips?

I picked up Datamaster software and it will not read my 92 ECM with a S&P chip for a ZZ4/TPI combo. Software works great on my stock 92 Z28convt. I found another guy with a ZZ4TPI running a S&P chip and he reports the same, DIACOM and the other scanner will not access the computer. Mine is calling a "Silent PCM". Is there a chip burner that could burn a chip for my ZZ4TPI and enable scanners to read the computer? This sucks!

Have you asked S&P? It sounds like they disabled, didn't include or alteterd the ALDL "datalink" code or data area in their eprom.

I'm thinking I need to call them today and find out.

Yeah, it may be that they have it setup for another year/model. I have great difficulty in believing that they'd disable the ability of a scan tool to read their eprom. That would be just plain stupid.

Some encrypted chips wind up this way. Yep, is a PITA, but IMHO, most aftermarket chips are anyway....

I called S&P. They gave me the VIN for the chip. 92 Firebird, L98. Should be no problem with the Datamaster Software I have. 90-92 F-body L98 MAP. I'm gonna try the dealership on Monday, see if they can crack it. After replacing the ignition module, cap, rotor, IAC, new plugs etc, car still won't restart after it gets hot.
