What is the best PROM option for my car???
Hi just curious what is the best PROM for my setup (see profile below). I have used the stock chip, and ADS superchip, and currently have a Hypertech Thermomaster chip installed with 160 degree thermostat. Is there anything that is a lot better out there, or something that offers programability for an 87? And how do you guys manage to "burn" your own, what do you need to do this. Thanks for the help.

Well your new and I hope you don't get flamed but this board is about burning your own chips. No chip you buy will be the "BEST" for your car only the one you program (burn) yourself.
I haven't done any programming myself but I have been reading up on it for the past 3 months. There is alot of reading to do. I've also gotten the programs to read and write to the prom (computer chip). I will be ready to start maybe late summer.
I stated what I have done cause it is indepth process and these guys here have done alot especially TRAXION, this borads moderator, to give all of us a chance to improve the performance of our car by chip burning. If you look at the top of this page there is a link to "Prom Burning Introduction" just click on it and it has all the info to get you started.
If you get started and you have specific questions about the program or programming the chip do a search in this board first, cause it probably has been asked before, then post a question if you can't find an answer.
One last thing don't ask for someone to program a chip for you cause this is not what this board is all about.
It is to HELP YOU PROGRAM your own chip.
Gooo Luck and have fun reading!

People with MAF cars are finding the 89 ARAP.BIN is giving an excellent starting point. You have to dump your cold start injector, but those that have converted are pleased with the results. Read some of the recent posts on "ARAP". Also do a search on ARAP for additional information.
As for how to get into PROM burning, click on the underlined link above on this message called "Please read TRAXION's Prom Burning Introduction technical article". This is a great starting point for any "newbie" and tells basically everything you need to know to get started. Follow all of the instructions in the article and don't be afraid to read it a couple of times.
The amount of time it will take to be able to burn your own Prom varies from person to person. It is possible to read Traxion's article and start burning your first eprom with "simple changes" in less than a day.
But to truly feel proficient, that takes a very long time, but it is a "learning process" where you build upon previously learned knowledge. The general problem is that people are looking for a "quick fix/change" that will give their car some phenomenal performance gain. Sorry, but that isn't going to happen (unless your car's mods are really mismatched to your current eprom).
But I will say that if you devote sometime, have a little patience and do lots of testing, you WILL get the best eprom possible.
As for your current ADS and the Hypertech eproms, you're wasting your money. They do very little (add a few degrees of spark to the lower-mid range of the spark table, possibly lock the TCC a few mphs higher and some alter Fan#1's on/off temp). A complete wast of money in my opinion. The good thing is that you can use your ADS piggy-back chip to use as a carrier for future eprom mods.
