Does the PROM need to be reprogrammed for 24# injectors?

I just recently installed 24# Ford SVO injectors in my 1988 TPI 350. Does the PROM need to be sent out for reprogramming? I am currently running a TPIS Level 4 PROM. So far the car runs fine at idle and WOT with no rich smell coming from the exhaust. I am running the injectors at 50 psi and the car does not run rich at all, even at idle. If the PROM does have to be reburned, what needs to be done to it? Will I see a noticable difference? Thanks for the help!

Joe

You do need a custom prom for your set up.
Having a proper chip is just magic. Even for a stock car, you can't beleive what a difference getting it right can mean.

What are you using to determine whether or not you are running "rich"?

I am using the Snap On Scan Tool to determine this. The O2 sensor fluctuates rich/lean readings at idle and WOT.

That is irrelevant. You should look at your BLM/INT values while in closed loop.

I'm not that familiar with PROM tuning but on the Snap On Scan Tool there is a BLM Cell reading that has the value of 0. Does this help at all?

Joseph,

I have a set of 24lb svo's on my 91Z28 supercharged running 8lbs of boost. I read a article on changing fuel injectors and it stated that as long as you don't increase the size by more than 20%, you do not need a chip made for the new injectors. You can experiment with your fuel psi by pumping it up 1psi and check your o2 voltage at wot each run to see if it is running too lean.
However, depending upon the application, i'm sure you can pull more hp out of a custom chip.

BLM cell zero is one of the 16 BLM cells, this one being the lowest rpm/lower airflow cell. You need to check out the BLM and INT values for as many of the cells as you can hit and see what their values are to see if you're too lean/rich while in closed loop. For WOT, you'll be in BLM cell 15 and you should be running rich (well above 450 mV, like in the 900's). For getting your car running its best, there's nothing better than burning your own chips.
