What is the function of the canister purge?

Mechanically: It keeps gas vapours within the "system" so they are recirculated and reburnt instead of just evaporating into the environment as they did in the old days. This is why the gas cap is not vented like older cars had.

Eprom: When your engine reaches certain parameters (On/off Speed, on/off MAP kpa, a range of BLM operation of your engine), it will function from 0-100% Duty Cylces. If you wish to invoke Highway Mode either the Purge Canister has to be operating with at least 50% Duty Cycles or you have to change this parameter to 0% if you hve not Purge Canister.

If you wish to disable the Purge Canister because you do not have one, you should set the enable MPH to 255 so it will never function.

 

How do I enable or disable this funtion? I have WinBin and Tuner Cat.

I have Speed Density, so the location and the speific parameters available are different for my engine. Get the 32 hac from DIY_EFI.COM and search for "purge". You should find all the parameters and location.

Depending on how your system enables it (Speed, temp, whatever), just set the "enable" parameter such that it is never enabled. IE, set Speed to 255 or Temp to 255 if that is what the $32 uses to enable the Purge Canister.
