Starts then immediately dies...

I'm now running the ARAP bin (with close to stock '87 spark table) and the startup behavior is different - not good. (Yes, I did pull the crank fuse.)
It fires right up, but immediately dies. On the second startup, it works fine. It does like this about half the time.

What parameter should I look at to adjust this out? The IAC park counts are waaay lower than my old chip. Would that be a good starting point? I kinda suspect this because sometimes the engine "catches" just before dying, just as if the IAC opened up just in time.

Also, I would like to get my hands on a stock '89 bin for comparison to the ARAP. Can someone direct me to (or send me) one?

What does your car consist of(mechanically)? The chip may be too much for you. If you have a 305, you could add and subtract stuff from an 89 305 auto or manual tranny chip.
Personally i started with 89 vette 6speed chip(apyp.bin). Depending on what you have, it may work better(if you have a 350/manual).

Oh and did you unplug the cold start injector?

I would raise the IAC park position since that's what the problem seems to be. Maybe bump them up 10-20 counts, then see if the problem goes away. If not, try another 10-20 counts and re-test.

I bumped the counts by 16.7% (one sixth). This made no difference. Funny thing is, it always fires instantly on the second attempt. Why do you suppose that is?

Did you readjust your IAC & TPS? When you removed your chip (and/or disconnected the battery), you removed any saved values. Readjust your IAC following the procedure in the FAQ and then see what it does. I have found that many people forget to do this, or do it incorrectly causing the startup and/or erratic idle problems.

Thanks, but I think you're mistaken on this. The ECM and/or PROM have nothing to do with the TPS setting, and the IAC resets itself automatically. You are correct about the TPS and minimum air settings needing to be right, but those are independent of the computer.
