Let me get this straight???
Let me get this straight???
All I need to convert a 1988 ECM to a 1989 ECM is the 89 MemCal and a 89 PROM with VATS disabled??? I understand that the cold start injector will no longer be needed. Where is a good place to find a used 89 MemCal? Junk yards seem to sell the ECM without the MemCals??? Should I try to use the the 88 MemCal? Thanks for the help!
You have several options:
- You could reprogram your 88 memcal with the 89 code.
- or Keep your original as a backup, and purchase a new 89 memcal from GM, then change the programming
- or Find a used 88 or 89 memcal at a yard, and reprogram it the way you want.
- Find a used memcal on Ebay, or classifieds, and again, reprogram it.
If you use the 89 code, yes, you would disconnect your cold start injector.
I kept my original, and bought a second one which I modified. That way I always have a backup.
