Linking w/ Craig's software
Linking w/ Craig's software
I have a question about linking with Craig's software. I have Andrew's cable. Craig's software tells me I have to jump a couple of ALDL pins with a 10 ohm resister in order to link. How can I do that with the cable connected? Am I supposed to splice into the wires to the ALDL connecter and bridge them with a resistor? What's that all about?
Also, is it possible to run Andre's cable to a Parallel port instead of a serial port? What kind of adaptor would I need? Would a straight DB9-DB25 adaptor work?

If you told me at the time that you ordered that you were working on a TPI car, then I would have put the 10kohm resistor between A&B already. If not, then I probably didn't. I would assume you are running a 1227165 MAF-based ECM.
The cable should have a gray DB25 hood where it meets the converter. If you open the hood, you should see a 10k resistor between pins 1 & 3 on the DB25 female connector.
I would not recommend trying to run the serial cable on a parallel port. I've never heard of anyone doing this successfully. It is possible to run it through a USB port, but I don't know how Craig's software would handle that - I know it works with Windows based software, but I don't know about DOS based software.
Drop me an email if you have questions, I'm happy to try and help. I don't get around here all that often, was just alerted to this post by someone here.

I'm using a '7730 ECM. Craig's latest version supports it. I tried ALDLMON, but it just choked on me. My options are limited because my laptop really sucks and is limited to DOS based apps.
I downloaded the new version and linked with no problem!
