Craig Motes software and my car????

Need help with Craig Moats Software and my car. I am in the very beginning stages of scanning my car. I hooked my laptop to the car with an AKM cable and Craig's software and got nothing. I am probably missed something, but that is why I am writing. I have an HP laptop running windows Milenium edition. I also am running a Hypertech chip in the car currently. Craigs program runs on the laptop but can't link up. I don't get an error or anything I just get nothing. I turned the default setting to online and nada. I do not have the 10K resistor between A and B as suggested but I am assuming it is built into the AKM cable.
So that's what I have. How do I make it work?

Sounds exactly like the problem i had before i had the 10 k resistor between a and b, however i made my own cable, you may want to check with AKM and make sure the resistor is included in the cable, it may not be.
good luck, craigs program is very cool

Boot it from a DOS floppy and re-test.

I haven't had problems with Moates software. Have you tried the 12v source? I didn't need it, but maybe you do? Boot from the floppy, as suggested, or if using win9x, boot and hold down the shift key. Is your serial port enabled?

I've heard of some people having problems with aftermarket chips, some not. Don't know if this is the issue, just thought it worth mentioning.

I'm having problems getting Moates to work on my car too. Datamaster works just fine, I have the black A and the green to the M on my ALDL like the instructions said, but MOates will not link....
Any suggestions?

My AKM has the 10k built in (there are 3 wires to hook up. black to A, red to M, and white to B. The 10k is between the black and A in the interface cable).

I haven't had success in getting craigs software to work either, however I can get winALDL to work (however, its 160 BAUD, which is strange - and the update rate [1 per second] sucks).

So, you do need the 10k.

Anything that will work with Win2000. Also how do I make this DOS bootable disk?

I sent a email to Craig and he suggested that WIN2K was my problem.

Since I am using an OLD laptop I loaded WIN98 on it and everything works great.

All that's on my laptop is programing and scanning software now.
It's all I'll use it for.
