few questions on ignition timing on 730 SD ecm
In CATS Tuner, Initial Spark Advance should match what the timing is with the bypass plug unhooked. correct????
When in the timing tables, does it take into account the Initial SA or does it add to it?
Is there a way to change the trigger angle??
I am going to use a MSD Pro Billit distributor, going into stock module and let the ECM control timing as it usually would.
I did a search and found the stock distributor has a trigger angle of 50*. From what I've found my MSD uses a 60* trigger angle.
If I can't change the trigger angle could I set the timing at 10* base and set Initial SA to 0*? this should make my timing tables correct???
thanks
Brendan.

Do some searching on MSD etc. There are some oddities using them and I don't recall the details. I'm not positive the msd will trigger a stock module.
Something to do with the signal.
Bypass unhooked is correct.
The table takes into account your initial SA.
But there are other adders/retards so you may not see the table value at the timing tab with a timing light or in your aldl stream.
But usually you will see the table value at normal operating temp and part throttle cruise. Assuming you did everything right and there are no sensor problems.
Do some research on this....
So how did you setup your ignition using a MS and an LSx?

From my readings both distributors are VR sensors. I have heard the polarity on the MSD is reversed, green is positive, purple is negative. Something to do with the rising edge and falling edge of the signal.
I used ford EDIS 8 ignition module with a 36-1 trigger mounted on the harmonic ballancer. I used GM DIS coils, made a bracket to hold the coils and wired them to the EDIS module.
I have pics on my website.

If you can get it to fire at all with the stock module, then all you have to do is turn the distributor to get the timing to the base setting.

She's running!
I am using a MSD Pro billet distributor with the magnetic pickup designed for use with the 6AL box. I ran the Orange wire to N on the module, and the purple wire to P on the module. Ignition module is stock 8 pin out of a old throttle body distributor I had laying around.
Fired right up with bypass disconnected. I'm going to set base timing and then see what happens when I hook up the bypass.

will it need heat sink since it's only triggering the MSD 6AL box now? no load on the module really I would think. I'll check how warm it gets, no biggie to put a sink on it.
