No pulse on start

Alright guys im going crazy i cant figure out what is going on with my starting problem
Here is whats happening. It will start almost all the time when it is cool, but when it is hot Diacom says pulse is 0.0 If I shoot it with a bit of starting fluid the injectors will come on when the motor gets over 5 or 6 hundred and then idles good (just a bit lean 130 BL). It is a 88 TPI running arap (Still does it with the stock chip) 383 Ci, cam is just a bit warm, MSD coil, MSD ignition, Accel 24# Inj. I just tried changing the distributor for a new one so thats not the problem. What exactly is it that tells the injectors to fire, its the distributor coil right? Anybody got any ideas? PLEASE HELP!!

Do you have spark, when just cranking the engine?.
Does the car have VATS?.
The ecm needs to see a distributor ref pulse to fire the injectors.

I just had a situation where a bad main coil caused the ECM not to pulse the injectors also. I'd go as Grumpy said and see if you have spark while cranking.

Yes the car does have vats but wont that make a light come on. I already tried replacing the distributor coil and the main coil. It always sparks like mad with my msd coil and msd ignition that spark jumpsa few inches. At first i thought it was a weak spark so i already checked that.

Whats a distributer coil and main coil? I know what the "ignition coil" is and the "pickup coil", but don't know what you are talking about.

The ECM fires the injectors based on a signal from the distributer. The pickup coil creates an A/C voltage that the Ignition module reads, buffers, and amplifies into a digital signal for the ECM to use. I have seen a similar situation on a TPI car that needed Ether to start everytime. Once running, it would stay running. I know you said you tried another distributer, but did that include a different ignition module?

Thats what i was refering to pickup coil and ignition coil. I put a brand new Distributor in that included everything coil and ignition module. All i reused was my cap and rotor i tried my old ignition coil too didnt help. Do you think it could be something in the ecm itself. By the way i turned vats off it didnt help I didnt think it really would but im ready to try anything.

This is just a guess here but maybe you have the cold start still working and it's acting up. You said the BL tries to correct lean when it does start which wouldn't make sense if this were the case but like I said, it's just a guess as ARAP doesn't use a cold start. In any case, I would change the cap and rotor anyhow.

Forgot to mention that it kind of knocks when i start it with starting fluid. I figured it was just because of the quicker burning ether but now im just using gas I put in a spray bottle (lucky it hasnt eaten through yet) and it still knocks but not nearly as hard. My timing is set very

Forgot to mention that it kind of knocks when i start it with starting fluid. My timing is set very modest. About 3deg before im just trying to get every thing close before i start advancing. Ooops double post am i bad

Well im giving up on it. It has to do with something either in the wiring harness or in the ecm as far as I can figure. Anyway I have a direct port nitrous system and i am going to wire it so I can make just the fuel silonoids open. So all i have to do is press a button for a split second every time before I start it. I really hate to have things wrigged like this but I just cant figure it out.
