MAF software

I bought an ALDL computer link cable a few months ago that I use on my bro's 92 TPI SD. But I am unable to find software that works on my 89 Iroc 350 TPI. Can anyone tell me where to get diagnostic software for a MAF computer? Is there any free software out that that works?

It works fine over here. What cable did you use? Remember that pin "B" has to be connected in the cable when you start the program otherwise it will not link up.... And the ignition has to be turned to "on" when you start linking up....

I am using a cable made by AKM Electronics. They are listed in the prom burning tech article. When I run the software then click run to start link nothing happens. Is there any other free software out there?

Take a healthier stab at getting it to work. Try all the obviously documented issues and get it to work, it will in all likelihood.

The cables for MAF and SD cars are different. The pin that has the info is different in the ALDL.

Ohh, that would explain why it doesn’t work. Where can I get semantics on making a cable for a MAF? I have found some stuff from people who have made one for a SD but not MAF.

Or can I just change the pins around on my cable made for a Speed Density?

That should do it. I think you need to have the data line on E and the cable now has it at M.

On a car with 1227165 ECU and MAF, the only pins you need to get Carigs software working is A, B and M....

B and A are the rightmost pins in the upper row of the ALDL connector, and M is the rightmost one in the lower row, right beneath A.....

Something like:

BA
.M

Howdy!

If you bought one of my cables that was orginally for a TPI MAP car, then odds are good that it does not have a 10k resistor in there for the ALDL link with a TPI MAF car. Normally, I don't include the resistor because it's not needed on 95% of the cables I sell.

Open up the gray hood where the OBDI style connector hooks up. If there is a 10k resistor, it will be between pins 1 and 3, with wires going to the ALDL connector.

If there is no 10k resistor, I'd be happy to put one in there, and I'll pick up shipping (US Mail) both ways. No problem, just a little time inconvenience.

If there is a 10k resistor, then I must ask, what kind of computer (laptop) you're trying to use with Craig's software? I've had some trouble with some of the faster machines and the TPI MAF ECM (I've got one here on the bench - that I'm going to send to TTS to see if we can get a version of Datamaster ).

I'm headed out of town in 30 minutes, so I'll be offline for a while, but email me at andrew@akmcables.com with any questions.

Thanks,

Andrew

(PS - thanks to the guy who pointed this out to me you know who you are! I owe ya one)

FYI, while I have a vette, its still TPI and MAF. The data is E not M on my car. (No wires connected to M at all on the connector)

I changed my name from "I can’t think of anything" to "89 Iroc Z"

Okay I took some pics of my cable etc…

Here is a picture of where my cable plugs into the ALDL:

There is no resistor under the gray hood:

A picture of the front of the circuit board:

I did find a 10k resistor on the back of the circuit board (as shown below) is this what I need?

If anything is not right here for a MAF car please tell me. I did try for another 30 min today to get this to work on my MAF with no luck. It works great on my brothers 92 TPI speed density. That’s why I think it's the software. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I was told by 94ZRagtop (Andrew) that the cable is okay.

My laptop is a Pentium 120 with 64 megs of ram running Windows 95 B. I know the com port and all the setting are right b/c this computer works with my 92 Camaro. The only difference is the software I use. Anyone having the same problem?
