Correct way to remove prom from memcal?

I just picked up a '730 ecm and MAP sensor from an LH0 and am about to do the '302 to '730 swap. But first I need to install my eprom with the correct bin. How do I de-solder the prom from the carrier without destroying it and everything around it?

I've got an adapter in the mall that will solve your problems... Then you won't have to desolder anything... Just solder the board, and plug it in. Cheap too.

Using a small side cutter, cut the pins of the eprom near where they come out of the chip. Next, it would be worth while to install a ZIF socket (or just a plain socket if you don't plan on much tuning). Just place the socket over top of the pins that remain from the eprom, and then solder the legs of the socket to the chip legs that remain.

If you have a socket with long enough leads, you can remove the pins from the old eprom by putting the memcal in a vise and using pliers to remove the pins while you touch them with the tip of your soldering iron. Then solder in the socket...

Thanks MonteCarSlow. Yeah, I want to install a ZIF, but it looks like it might interfere with the limp-home module, or calpak I think its called.

If you buy a low profile zif from "GotSpeedRacing" on ebay, and slightly shave the one end, you can get a ZIF onto the memcal. I've got one in my 7730 anyways

If you want pics, lemme know, and I'll snap some for you at the next chance I get.
