LINKED for the first time, then ECM died

I got a new, rebuilt ecm from my mechanic to try and it linked on the second shot, with no fuss. Then I went to start the car and nothing. The ecm was smoked. With that cable, do I remove the cig. adapter right after it links or leave it in? My fan relay also died, noticed it driving home. Could that have happened at the same time or was it just a fluke?

On my old ecm I left it connected for a long time and it didn't do any damage. It also never linked with that ecm. I'm getting another rebuilt ecm from my mechanic this weekend. He's not charging me for these but I'd rather not blow up another one.

Sorry about that, some of the info got "lost" somehow when I was writing it.

I'm using Craig's software with an AKM cable on a 1227165 ecm.

Have you tried linking to the ECM after the car is running? That may be the problem, that while its linked and not running its shorting it out somehow? That shouldn't be the case. It didn't matter in my case when I had the 165ecm.. and still doesn't even with the 730 ecm.

I'm using Diacom but that shouldn't matter either. Maybe there is something up with the cable? I don't know much about the cable so I'm not of much use.

I don't use the cigarette lighter power adapter at all. My laptop links up fine on lots of cars..... (until the battery goes low on the laptop..... grrrrrr).
