speedometer issue please help!
Hi everyone. I have a 92 camaro with a 350 TBI engine out of a 92 1500. The car is a 5 speed with the factory 305 TBI harness from the camaro, but the computer and motor from the truck were used. The truck was an auto, and was 4 wheel drive. I picked up a brand new speed sensor, and when I plugged it in, the speedometer will not read at all. Do I need an F-body computer for this? Do the TBI equipped trucks have a different signal? This has to be a pretty common swap, so any help would be very appreciated. By the way, the part number on the speed sensor I got is AC delco # 213-196.

You need a 4-out buffer box. On TBI f-body's the tranny mounted VSS goes to the buffer box, then on to the speedo, cruise, and ECM.

You alteady have one, next to the computer (it's yellow).
Just go back to the camaro computer.

Heres another one for you. What if the wiring harness I used is for an automatic? Will that effect whether the speedo works with a 5 speed tranny?

Whether an auto or stick the ECM harness does not matter.
Check ECM pin A10. Should have a brown wire as the VSS input. This is not directly from the VSS, but from the 4-out buffer box.
What engine was originally in the '92 that you swapped the 350 TBI into??
As for using the truck or Camaro TBI ECM, doesn't matter. They both use the same VSS signal input.

The camaro originally had a 3.1 liter V6. I'll check again to see if I can find the box, but if it does have it, how do I get the speedo to work? I don't remember unplugging it or messing with it so I'm assuming that if it has it, it's all hooked up.

That vehicle will not have the 4-out buffer box. You will need to add one.
There are 2 wires that went to the original 3.1 ECM, a purple and a green ? (with stripes) that are twisted together. The insulation on those wires will also feel different then the rest.
They are the signal directly from the VSS. Also, you will need to use the 350 TBI truck ECM, not the original 3.1 ECM.
A 4-out buffer box is usually yellow, sometimes white. If the label is intact is states '4-out buffer' on it. Can be had from a bunch of different 3rd gen f-body's and various Caprices. The VSS signal goes to it, need ground and IGN+. Out of the box will be the signals to run the speedo, ECM, and cruise control.
They are typically located under the dash, easy to get too. I have seen them on both the drivers side and the passenger side. Once in the junkyard just need to look for it.
