Im new and need help getting started

Ok I've already read some stuff including
https://www.thirdgen.org/promintro
I went to purchase a chip and I know for a fact that I want a flash prom because I dont want to deal with erasing the prom all the time and he EEPROM lasts longer because you dont need to emerse it in UV radiation. Im looking to get a simple set up because I dont really need anything too complex and Im going to keep changing the PROM. Im slowing upgrading and changing parts out so I want to begin burning my own PROM so that when I start changing stuff I dont have to keep going to a dyno shop to have them burn one

Well, I was hoping that someone could tell me what the diference is with the packages on digkey http://www.digikey.com/scripts/DkSea...?KeywordSearch Also I was curious as to if I would need different programs when I add power adders (turbochargers) or should all of the programs out there be able to accomidate turbos, sc's and NO2. Another thing, is there a diference in which ZIF I buy? Will some run slower or restrict the PROM at all?

Just out of curiosity can i use all of my equiptment to burn PROMs for other vehicles too such as a friends or family members if it isnt the same car?

For programmers you should check out www.moates.net you can find other ones on eBay but you get what you pay for. To program your PROM for turbo/supercharger you don't need any extra equipment, all changes will be made in your tables in the bin. On moates.net you'll find a link to a shareware program that will allow you to program the chip for your 3rd gen, you might have to get a different program for other cars but as log as they use a chip compatible with your programmer you're good. The ZIF socket is just an adapter to make it easy for you to insert the chip in. ZIF stands for Zero Insertion Force meaning you "open" it and you don't need to push (or pull) to put it in (or pull it out). From a functional point of view it will not affect how your PROM runs, some of them are low profile so you can fit it under a cover, some of this info is found on moates.net With some EEPROMs you might have to change where the programmer starts writing (address point), offset the address, you should investigate this a little as well.
I hope this helps.

thanks for the help. For the EEPROM I was told you just need to copy the file and save the two i dentical files as one so that the info gets written twice on the eeprom and it'll fill the chip and work correctly.
