More info needed. What laptop, what cable, USB or serial, what O/S? What ECM and mask ID?
Have you checked to see that you have the right COM port allocated through your Windows Control Panel, System, Hardware, Device Manager, Ports, and is the speed and parity the same as you have set in Winaldl?
Have you got an infrared or other port conflict?
These connectivity problems are a pain- hope you get it fixed soon.

Re: dumb noob problem :)
im running a windows 98 omni book, with the dataloger hooked up through the usb if that helps any, i forget were i got the interface cable but it worked for my car back about 4 months ago
Re: dumb noob problem :)
Some USB drivers instal the virtual com port from the USB socket you've plugged into first and only that socket.
You need to check that the speed setting and com port settings are the same in the Device Manager and Winaldl.
