Quick question about cam and how its running now...
Ok, I am trying to tune this thing what I can in the driveway, I can't take it out yet as I need to finish putting it back together, but the cam is what I have, I didn't choose it, someone else did before I had any experience and I don't have the money or will to change it out right now. I used Comp Cams' website to look up the specs for your easy reference below:
http://www.compcams.com/Technical/Se...umber=08-420-8
The question is, the car idles pretty well at 700rpm, has a LITTLE bit of vibe, I guess that's to be expected from a V8, it's been years since this thing has run so I honestly don't remember how it felt with the Qjet. WB readings run low-mid 14's. Is this normal with this size cam, with its 110LSA? Or should I be able to run it dead on 14.7? If I adjust for 14.7 it seems to run worse, its just at its sweet spot right now. Exhaust doesn't stink. Oh ya, and I'm running locked BLMs, CL control wants to pull the BLMs down and it runs worse. Just want some support I guess and know that its ok...? haha
I don't have much experience tuning yet, but it seems difficult to pinpoint the AFR with my WB with the swings of +/- .2 or so. I'm waiting for the new Scannerpro so I can use the averaged histogram feature...

Start reading the stickies :-)
They can teach u more than anyone can explain to u.
Most cammed cars tend to run smoother at idle w/ a slightly richer AFR.
If everything on the car is hooked up and working right and its warmed up and its trying to pull the blm's down its rich.
Try pulling some fuel out of the bottom maf tables and see what happens, should drastically lessen the bottoming blm numbers your getting.
Also might want to add a slight bit to the idle timing as well.
For pulling fuel based on your cam I would guess take 5-8% out of the lower few tables and see what happens.

Re: Quick question about cam and how its running now...
Maybe I came off more of a noob than I really am. I know about needing richened up because of the overlap, I guess my inexperience is in cams; the question redefined is, is this cam large enough (in terms of its duration and overlap) to warrant the need for a rich idle. I know for a fact that the car likes it rich like this. I've pulled fuel and it doesn't seem to like it. I've added timing in the idle spark table, and didn't see too much effect on quality of idle. I think I have it around 23 or 24* at 800rpm now (in the table).
The fact that it pulls BLMs when given the authority (non-locked) and it runs worse tells me that I'm looking at running open-loop, which is fine for me, I just wanted to verify that what I am seeing is to be expected from this size of a cam. I had thought it was pretty small, but like I said I don't have a lot of experience running different sized cams.
Thanks for the reply.
Edit: BTW, it is SD not MAF.

Change where I said maf tables to ve tables and the same still applies
ANY CAM with more duration than stock will move effectively over on the ve table and result in the richer fueling that u are seeing and needs to be accounted for.
