Best performance chip for my car...
Hey guys im kinda new to this whole thing. I have a 85 camaro that iv gone through a ton of crap because of but im finally cleaning it all up with a simple motor swap and tranny rebuild. Im having a local shop put in a slighty built 350, mild cam stock heads(for now) performer intake manifold, edelbrock 650 carb and long tube headers. Their going to rebuild the 700r4 in their with a shift kit and beef it up with factory updates to the tranny. The guy at the shop told me i could greatly improve my gas milage and release ALOT of horsepower from a chip. As im looking into it I could buy a chip from hypertech for 150 or get my ECU tuned from jet for 300, but im also hearing about burning it my self. I want to know what the best thing to do is and how I can go about getting started. Any help would be great guys. Thanks,Jeremy

Re: DIY Burning Eprom? Chip? Advice needed
I think you may already know the answer you'll get here: do it yourself. It really is the only way to fly.

Im either going to do that or send it to hawks third gen...doing it your self looks hard and time consuming. Im a very busy guy and I have no patience so im not so sure DIY is the best thing but im going to read up more about it and see what I cant come up with. Thanks,Jeremy

Re: Best performance chip for my car...
The amount of control on a "Compu-Carb" car is very minor...primarily the spark, and it's quite mild. Most guys just get a good mechanical/vaccum HEI distributor and tune manually.
The info on tuning a Compu-Carb car is limited due to the small number of users and because most guys just install a mechanical/vacuum HEI distributor due to the cost and limited ability anyway.
