EBL or PCM?
What is the advantages and disadvantages of the EBL vs. the 16197427 PCM? Is one better than the other? Is one better for certain things?

Re: EBL or PCM?
The EBL offers an integrated solution to engine management. With many features not available in GM ECM/PCM's.
If you wish to run an electronic trans you need to use the PCM.
It is an apples and oranges comparision.

Re: EBL or PCM?
people have been using a standalone computer to run the transmission only for many years, i think there is even a .BIN floating around out there for some truck computer designed to just run a 4l60e/4l80e.
So, if the tranny is already standalone, it doesn't care if the engine is carb'd or EBL or whatever.
it won't be as easy as falling asleep after a 24 hour workday, but it shoudln't be anything that hasn't been done and documented before.

Re: EBL or PCM?
ACTUALLY, it is a tough decision. If I had a stock TBI truck setup with the 427 PCM, I would probably stay with the PCM. Like I previously stated the TBI PCM in itself has alot to offer. The EBL does however offer some features the TBI PCM does not.

Fast,
I guess it depends. EBL isn't just an ECM but as RBob has stated its an integrated engine management and tuning system. There isn't a PCM around that does that. That's why I posted as IMO. For what I needed to do, it was the obvious choice.

Re: EBL or PCM?
The PCM has many advanced features, but does not have the real time tuning package as EBL has. On the other hand, in an etrans app., it offers an integrated engine/transmission package so theres no need to split sensor signals and such.

Re: EBL or PCM?
I know, but you can run a MAF with the PCM. I am still working with running a MAF and an E-trans on the same PCM. I have been playing with a running test engine/transmission on a test stand and am having difficulty inputing the VSS signal from the transmissions VSS into the 4L80Es turbine shaft speed sensor input. More specifically I have been unable to find the locations that the input goes into the code when the ECM is running.
