14-17 KC on startup...

Just recently swapped out my 305 for a mild 357. Using the same 165ecm and chaning the chip out to a ARAP bin, using the same SA table except for adding about 4d at idle and low speeds, my engine loves the SA for some reason. I idle at 24d and cruise around 41d.

I'm registering through datalogging KC from 14 to 17 at startup. Other than that i'm not getting a single KC anywhere from light throttle to WOT. Is that too many counts for startup? Or is that some false readings or something??

I've tried chanign the lower SA tables to 13d around idle but my engine doens't like it, and I still get 14-17 counts.

I've dialed in my blms +/- 4 to 128 and i've added some AE to get better fueling during acceleration. I've also tried decreasing the cranking SA from around 7cold to 3 warm to 0cold -4warm but I still get anywhere from 14 to 17 counts.

Wondering if this is harmful, I know that a few counts on startup is normal, on my 305 i'd get 3 to 5 on startup, but now i'm getting double digits everytime...kinda scary.

Did you re-use the knock sensor from the old 305?? if so you will see more knock counts do the extra ci. Just a thought. My 350 swap using a 7747 ecm like alot of timing as well.

Theres a good deal of noise at startup from teh starter and such that can set the KS off. Just ignore them.

Also, as said above, you should try to get teh 350 memcal and knock sensor.

Not trying to hijack this thread but I used my stock 350 knock sensor on my 383. My block is filled with ceramic filler up to the first freeze plugs. I'm in the very beginning stages of tuning with a fresh 0 mile drivetrain. Tunerpro RT sees knock counts climb from 0 to 300 and then drops to zero only to climb again. When looking at the histogram it looks like a saw tooth pattern the whole way out while idling around 1000rpms.!!

I forgot to mention, I used a brand new 350 knock sensor and I swapped out the ESC module. So it should all be 350 stuff. The engine is a 357 so maybe as you said extra ci would throw it off, maybe that's why it's a littler higher, it isn't a stock 350 which the sensor is calibrated for. Hmm that makes sense.
Thanks.

It sounds like your getting so many counts that the counter is just rolling over and over. Id just disable the KS and knock retard altogether if it does that while driving as well.

IMO your good to go. Youll always see knock counts on startup.
