cant get my 305 to idle

cant get my 305 to idle

i just got my flash ebl in and am trying to get used to how much more in depth it is my car when it starts up it wont idle at all the tach will flip out and it will start chugging and just die if anyone has anywhere to start that will greatly help out a new guy at this. thanks

also if this helps i have done an lt1 cam swap edelbrock performer intake full exhaust w/headers full msd ignition including 6al

The tach flipping out is not good. This is usually indicative of an ignition problem. Although it just may be the MSD doing it. IIRC MSD has a filter to eliminate this. Can even pull the MSD off until other items are squared away.

As for the chugging, with the LT1 cam it is probably too rich. If you can get the engine to stay running until warmed up (just hold a high idle with the gas pedal), you can then do some VE Learns.

Otherwise, open the low VE table in TP and highlight the area from say: 400 rpm through 1800 RPM, 20 KPa, through 70 KPa. Then use the toolbox to multiply by .85. That will remove 15% of the fueling.

Then start the engine and see how it is. Should clear it up a bit. If it now rev's then stalls (on it's own) it is too lean. Either way keep it running (don't go crazy with mashing the go-pedal), and do some VE Learns. Once it smooths out and can be driven, continue with the VE learning.
