'727/'730 knock board in '165?
Would it be possible to use a '730 knock board in my '165 running $32B to eliminate the external knock module? If so what knock sensor, resistor and knock board should I use? I doubt this will work without getting into the code, but thought I'd ask.
P.S. it's a v6.

Sure looks that way. From a quick look at the schematics unplug the '165 MEMCAL and plug in the '7730 MEMCAL, disconnect the ESC module wire to the ECM. Done.
You mention a V6, there are a bunch of 2.8 & 3.1l V6's that used the '7730 ECM. I would start with one of those.
OTOH, I prefer the external module as it is easier to try different ones. There are many vehicles that used the external module, including turbo cars, run-of-the-mill grand-ma cars, and CCC setups.

Re: '727/'730 knock board in '165?
Will it run with $32B? I plan to keep it a maf setup. I have a knock sensor off a '94 fwd 3.1, will this give me the correct signal or will I need to put a resistor between it and the ecm? I've run it with the '730 knock board in (no knock sensor yet) and I didn't get an error code so I assume it's working...

Don't see why not. It's all in the hardware, which is present in the '165 same as the '7730. Not sure how much research you would like me to do for you. My bet is that the '165 code ($32, $32B, or $6E) in stock form doesn't check the resistance of the knock sensor, because it can't. Or, if it is coded to do so, it will be a option bit. Which in stock form will be disabled.
Try pin B11 as the knock sensor input when using the '7730 MEMCAL.
Try it and let us know how it works out and what you did to have it work.

I've been looking at a $32B dissasembly and I can't find anything related to knock sensor resistance. I've got it wired up, now I just need to simulate some knock (hammer trick) to test it as soon as I get a chance. Thanks for the help.

Hooked everything up and it works beautifully. Aside from working the new wiring into the wiring harness this has to be the easiest addition I've made to this motor yet. Just pop the correct knock board in, screw in the knock sensor and run the wiring to pin B11.
