Idle Control
Just got my fan temp setup chipped rite and now on to
cold and hot idle control.
Running good sized cam 383 MiniRam and would like to
bring the idle up to about 950 from 750 to help braking
under 3000/Edge verter. #11 vacumm at idle.
165 ECM-6E expanded XDF-TunerPro-RT-Apu1 and a
Pcformless starter chip.
Have looked thru 32b-6E and expanded 6E for what I'm looking for as to changes to make
Have a feeling more than one parameter affects it.
Finally got a datalog on it-its a start
Any advise??
Thanks

Re: Idle Control
I'm in exactly same position ,still learning all this new stuff.
Very similar engine , 165 , 6E.
Someone will tell us if it's wrong but I used the
Idle RPM v Coolant Temp
in the Tables/ Functions to adjust idle speed.

Re: Idle Control
Yes, idle speed vs coolant for the desired idle.
Yes, there is always more to it then it seems.
IAC steps have a lot to do with idle quality.
On the MAF setups ($32, $6E, etc) the TPS voltage at idle is also important.

Re: Idle Control
hmmm? so if say your chip bin say 750 and if your set your IAC idle higher without changing it in the bin...will that make some kind of conflict. Does it have to be changed in the bin?

Re: Idle Control
Lets say the engine is setup to idle at 600 RPM and does so with 20 IAC steps. You now change the BIN and tell to idle at 850 RPM. In order to do so the ECM will open the IAC further. To possibly 80 steps. This isn't as good as the IAC using 20 steps. So the best thing to do is to open the throttle blades until the engine will idle at the required 850 RPM with about 20 IAC steps.
If using $32 or $6E this then affects the TPS setting. And the TPS should be reset back to .54 volts (or there abouts).
If the idle screw is used to open the blades to the deisred idle RPM, the IAC is taken out of the idle control picture. It will sit at 0 steps and be able to only increase the engine idle speed.

Re: Idle Control
Thanks RBob
Have my temps setup to run between 178-184/180 target.
Once CL and temp met, adjust TB to desired idle setting.
Reset TPS to desired voltage, I use .540.
Then make changes in Coolant vs idle and burn.?
My IAC steps are 60 and up with current setup at idle.
Chip also shows 1200rpm until 153F, which I want, but
have to play with the throttle until CL comes in.
Want to slope it as temp comes in. (Would like to go have
a cup of coffee while car warms up)
