ALDL Cable needed when using Ostrich?

ALDL Cable needed when using Ostrich?
Before I had my Ostrich 2.0 installed I had a ALDL cable in my aldl port running over the driver side of the car. Now that I'm running an Ostrich I don't really understand the need for an ALDL cable now. I mean all input/output is going to be handled via the USB and Ostrich right?
