ECM help please

I have a 89 RS with a 305 TBI 5 speed that i am exchanging for a 1992 350 TPI with some mods and im pairing it with a t56 from a 93 camaro that came with a LT1. I have the ECM from the 350 in hand. The car was an automatic transmission.

My main question is, can i use the stock computer temporarily when i switch the motors and trannies? Will it even work? Or will i have to buy a chip to put into the ECM from an aftermarket company that is specifically programmed for a 350 TPI with a manual transmission?

This project is costing me alot of money that i dont really have so i am just looking to get the car running (doesnt have to be perfect yet) until i can save up some more money for the rest of my mods and install them. I will probably try my hand at Prom burning later on, but like i said, i just want to get the car in good running condition.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Re: ECM help please

The ecm for the 92 TPI will not plug up to the wiring harness in the TBI car.
The TBI ecm will not control the TPI because of the injectors. Also, the TBI fuel pump doesn't put out enough pressure for TPI.

Hope this helps,
Dewayne

I have the complete wiring harness for the 92 TPI as well as the ECM for it. I also have a new fuel pump for the TPI. What else do i need?

I think I misunderstood your question. If you were asking if you could just use the shock chip when you change out the engine, fuel pump, ecm and wiring harness yes you can. Depending on what modifications you did to the engine will determine how well it runs but you should be able to get by for a little while.

Re: ECM help please

If you are going to use the 92 setup,
The thing on that is the VATS system will need to be programmed out or a simulator put in to provide the right signal to the ECM. The injectors will not fire if it is not removed or satisfied.
Go to Moates.net and get a chip adapter, 512 chip and a chip burner.
Find an old laptop to use for datalogging and burning.
Get a logging cable from there or other makers so you can see what is happening when you are troubleshooting.
Then you are good to go. (Now and in the future)
You will save money in the long run and eliminate allot of frustrations guessing at what could be wrong.
