im converting from 305 tbi to 350 tpi. the donor car was an auto and i have a 5 spd. is it true that i need a PROM from a 5spd car for this swap to be effective? or are things gonna go haywire? thanks guys.

 

It will run will the chip for an antomatic transmision. Your shift light is not gonna work but who cares. I ran mine for a year of so before I found this site and started tuning

Don't forget to change the fuel pump. I didn't know it mattered when I did my swap but a tpi engine doesn't run well on a tbi fuel pump.

 

ohhh ok cool thanks. well yea who cares about the light then, im getting a auto meter tach anyways. so other than the TPI fuel pump, thats all i need? ill be set?

 

ok, well I'm gonna assume you are planned on changing the wiring harness and ECM. My car is a 1989 and the doner car was a 1988 and the Engine wiring harness and the ECM pluged right in to the harness under the dash.

You will need to use the prom and ecm from the TPI car.

Other than the ECM, engine wiring harness and fuel pump you should be set.
It has been a few years, I hope I'm not overlooking anything.

 

ok ill get the PROM and the ecm...are they both located inside the dash?? what do they look like?

so with the PROM from the donor car i just wont have a shift light??
oh and thanks for the info. just making sure cuz im about to go get the engine and wiring harness right now. and the ecm and prom thing and whatever else.
