Miniram/LTX-manifold guys, need strategy for tuning open loop for cold start
Miniram/LTX-manifold guys, need strategy for tuning open loop for cold start
$8D 7730.
I'm turning my attention to my cold start up which has always been pretty poor. Started by copying the BDZL open loop and VE tables from the $DA3 Firebirds but it seems way off (which is surprising since almost everything else from that calibration seems to work great). Any rate, the idle quality is horrible and tends to want to stall when I put it in gear. I've swung the calibration richer and leaner, but no to avail. I've defeated the cold start spark advance already and have verified that I'm getting full spark advance at idle.
I'm wondering if any of you guys could give me some tips on attacking this one.
BTW, I'm happy to announce that my idle misfire has been solved. It's been solved for the last four months with no reccurences, so I'm sure it's solved for good this time. I've finally been able to dial in the tune and I have it exactly where I want it.
Any rate, it turned out that the #7 cylinder had poor compression. Somehow it managed to escape two previous leak down tests (I must have done something wrong the first two times). The third time I ran the test (for the heck of it), I found that #7 cylinder had almost 40% more leakdown than the other cylinders. I then traced it to the rings by hearing the air hissing sound coming through the dipstick tube. Even though I was bummed that the problem was in the short block, I was thrilled that I finally found THE PROBLEM. However, thinking my shortblock was bad and I had nothing else to lose, I decided to try a bottle of Rislone compression repair (after reading about it on the internet). The freaking stuff worked!! After about 150 miles of driving after putting it in, the misfire went away and the compression was back up. It must have been that the rings were stuck or something and this Rislone freed them up. The car idles glass smooth now, it's great! Since late 2004 I've been fighting this and here we are in 2008 and it's finally solved.
