$8D on LA1 swapped Z24 (DIS)

How's it going everyone. One of my first posts here so bare with me. I'm the owner of a 1990 Chevrolet Cavalier Z24. Stock it was a 3.1L auto, running a '7730. I've swapped in a 3.4L (LA1) engine, along with some other goodies.

The LA1 engine breathes much better than the 3.1L that was in there, and revs a lot higher as well. $A1 code, the main VE table only extends up to 4000 rpm. Then there's a VE adder table for anything above that. By using the adder table, I lose a lot of resolution in my tuning above 4k rpm.

Recently on 60degreev6.com, I came across this post, http://60degreev6.com/forum/f121/8d-...t-t44754/page3

Which states I can use $8D instead of A1, with only a few changes. The changes listed are as follows...

Set the "Number of Cylinders" from 0 to 192
Set the "SPARK ADV Initial" from 6.0 to 60
Set the "SPARK ADV Max" from 41.84 to -10
Set the "SPARK RET, Max for Knock" from -3.87 to -70
Set the "Cylinder Volume" from 713 to 515.69 (for the 3.1)
Set the "ERROR QUAL 41, Cylinder Select" from 0 to 08
Left the "Injector Flow Rate" at 22.08
Set the "VSS, Vehicle Speed Sensor Pulses" to the correct value for my setup (27106)
Set the "MANUAL OPTION" to 1

So I'm trying to set up my .bin like this so it'll run my DIS Z24. Problems though.

Spark adv initial - will only set to 60.1, NOT an even 60
Spark adv Max - I can not for the life of me enter a - "negative" number here. If I manually type -10 and hit save, it'll default to 0
Spark Ret Max for knock - Again, no negative numbers allowed

Does anyone know how I would get this to work? I Would really like to try 8D on my Z24.

Thanks for all the help!

Re: $8D on LA1 swapped Z24 (DIS)

the ref angle of 60.1 is fine, the max and min retard sounds like your .edf file is not setup right. I've read and been told most are not. for you, the easiest thing to do, if the address are right, is to input the values as hex. so you don't need to worry about the xdf's conversion factors. I'm not at home right now, but if the guys that know this off the top their heads don't port up before I get home. I'm find it for you then. if you want to do some searching, the last few pages of a thread titled "do away with dizzy" covers it all as they guys explain it to me. but for high rpm use, look into the S_AUJP project, its $8D with hacks for high revs ve and spark table.

If you're using TunerPro, do an "Edit Item XDF info" on both the "SPARK ADV Max" & "Spark Ret Max for Knock" and make sure the "Signed" checkbox is checked.

Re: $8D on LA1 swapped Z24 (DIS)

I did what you said...Making sure "Signed" is checked. It is.

For Spark Ret, Max for Knock, the lowest value I can get in there -2.83. Still not anywhere near my -10 that I need.

The other, Spark Advance Max, I can get -69.96, which I'll assume is "close enough".

Some help on this last step would be awesome!

Thanks a lot

sorry about not replying, its been busy and never seem to have internet access when I'm around my laptop. but go here, what you need is here. https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/diy-...y-dizzy-4.html and make sure you have 2s complment(sp) box checked. it needs that in the edf setup.
