g1 vs gp1 adapter

I dont know if I need a G1 or GP1 adapter for a 165 ecm. Is a zif socket necessary or will a G1 hold the chip just as well?

What I am asking is what is the point of a gp1 with a zif, is it just a more secure way of holding the chip?

The adapter with the zif socket lets you swap the chips out easier (using the little lever)... I am just starting to play with burning chips and I have changed the chip several times. The adapter with the zif socket will not allow you to put the cover back on the ecm.

However, once you are finished tuning you can carefully pry the zif socket off, insert the chip and ride into the sunset..

Now if I could only figure out what all the numbers mean??

this is true for 7165 and i believe 7730 type ECMs.... the 7727 and other weatherproofed ones however, there is a LOT more room and allows the lid to be closed if you use a ZIF.
