Re: Whats do i need to tune

Read the stickies up top of the page in this section.

You will need a chip adapter for the ECM, which most use the GP1 package from Moates.net.

Get a programmer, Burn2 is a nice piece from Moates.net.

Get the software, tunerpro RT.

ALDL cable for diagnostics, also from moates.net.

Chips, which 2 are included in the GP1 adapter so if you want more you can order more.

Thats about it. Not too much involved.

I would think so but then again not sure if the software is compatible with new systems or not, especially any of the mac systems. I have no clue.

Re: Whats do i need to tune

JR350tpi, your user name mentions TPI, while your mini-sig states TBI. I wanted to bring this up as some of the tuning equipment between the two varies.

It is always best to state the MY of your f-body, along with the induction system. And also if any major changes have been made (such as an ECM upgrade).

Re: Whats do i need to tune

some of the ftdi stuff from moates is causing my dell studio w/ win 7 64 bit to crash. I can almost bluescreen it on demand with the ignition switch if I'm using winALDL. Its worked great on xp for years. Sticking with 32 bit would prob be a good idea for tuning, but inspirons and studios are bottom of the barrel hardware. Paying more for a better laptop would probably solve those issues.

It's cause before I had a iroc but it was stolen so now I bought a rs, and no I have not changed the ECM or anything from my car but I would like to convert my car to tpi or hsr once I'm gonna drop in my 350 so I would like to burn chips for both. Also I am gonna start going to college to be ome auto technician so I would like to use the computer to see the readings of the ECM.

For the TBI ECM (1228746) you need the G2 adapter in .6" width. The Burn2 & chips are OK. For data logging, need an ALDL cable and either WinALDL or TunerPro RT.

Re: Whats do i need to tune

A cheap old laptop will work for tuning, I have used a IBM thinkpad 600 and it was just fine.

Decide TBI or TPI/HSR, as the tuning equipment, ECM, EBL for TBI or EBL with port mod, are not exatly the same. To set up a system that can cotrol TBI and port injection may be possible, but not for amateurs, and there is none on the market.

For the prices, you can read them yourself, because if you can not do that, I would say leave the engine modding and tuning to a professional. http://dynamicefi.com/ http://moates.net/

Re: Whats do i need to tune

If you want a really nice piece of equipment, I'd recommend the autoprom. It can burn chips, datalog both 160 baud and 8192 baud, real time emulation, and it comes with a license for tunerpro RT. Also, when purchasing the chip adapter, I'd recommend one with a ZIF socket.

Any laptop running windows based OS should run your software. I'd be wary about macs.

Re: Whats do i need to tune

Well depends, because if he keeps TBI, then the EBL is about as nice as tunig equipment can go.

Re: Whats do i need to tune

I am thinking I am gonna go with ebl then from their I learn how to tune a bit and from their I could also use it for port injection from what I have seen in other threads.

Re: Whats do i need to tune

EBL requires the port mod to be intalled + another "box" to run port injection.

If you start with a EBL for TBI, make sure it can be converted. If so you will probably have to send it to dynamicefi for the conversion.

Re: Whats do i need to tune

Lots of laptops come without a serial port these days.
I have found it to be a useful com port in tuning.
