Where's the best place to get an aldl cable?

 

I prefer the moates.net ALDU1. It has native USB, so it is compatible with newer laptops and has never failed me.

If you have a laptop with a Native serial port, you can get away with making your own cable. There are several plans and many links in this forum.

moates.net? Worked for me just now. Another guy told me aldlcable.com 's cables are decent but it seems more people prefer moates.

If you have a 160 baud I just made the 1 trans one with a serial -> usb adapter off walmart.com and it works like a charm for half the price of buying a cable.

 

I'm sure the problem was on my end. No big deal.

I would like to make a cable. Do you know of a good write-up to follow?

The serial to usb adapters can be pretty flaky at times, but I tried it first since the price wasnt that bad at all for trying that first and luckily it has worked very regularly for me so far.
Also the R4 resistor is only for CCC, and I know for sure if you have a 8746 or 7747 you don't need R3 either, but I'm sure you don't need it for plenty other ecm's as well.

 

I can't remember for sure, ace_012, but doesn't that single transistor schematic only work for 160 baud interface?

Here's the schematic (courtesy of techedge.com.au) for the "two transistor" interface, which is supposed to work with 8192 baud. I'm guessing the OP has a '165 ECM, so it would also be capable of providing 8192 baud data, as well as 160, I think.



I tried this one on mine, and it didn't work. Although other's have had success. Maybe I didn't troubleshoot it properly... Anyway, I now use the MAX232 circuit, which is probably the most reliable. However, it requires a MAX232/233 IC.

 

Yea the 1 trans is only for 160 baud, thats what I mentioned in my first post so I just assumed that he had a 160 baud ecm

I tried the 2 trans first though and didn't have any luck either. If you have a 8192 baud ecm like BlueIroc-Z said the MAX232 circuit is probably your best bet from what I've read.

now it's time for the ignorant question of the day... how do i find out what the baud rate is for my ecm? it's the original from an 89 tpi car.
