Problem with burning/erasing chips with Autoprom

I've used this AutoProm a few times in the past and it seemed to work but I haven't needed to use it for a year or so. Today, I needed to make a few quick changes and I can't seem to get a successful write to the chip.

For now, I'm just trying to erase a 27sf512 through Flash&Burn. The AutoProm is connected to the laptop and F&B seems to recognize it. When I choose Erase Chip it returns Succeeded. But, when I then choose Blank Check it says the chip is not blank. I've tried this on 3 chips with the same results.

I was also never able to get a bin to write and successfully verify either.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks!

Try inserting the chip correctly.

The notch should face the ZIF handle and the chip should be pushed furthest from it.

That was how the chips were oriented during the failed attempts.

Strange, it should work.

Get with me Monday if you like and I can do some troubleshooting for you remotely if needed.

Thanks! I may have to get with you on this.

I did a little more playing this morning and it's intermittently working.

I decided to try swapping USB cables but it didn't make a difference right away. But, after 3-4 tries it started working again. For fun, I swapped to the previous cable and it was still working. I could erase and blank check a chip as well as program and verify without error. So, I decided to try a different chip and it went back to not working for awhile. Restarted F&B and after a few failures, it's back to working for the moment.

Thanks!

Dale
