Code 43: I need clarifications (8D) - behavior when code is present..
Hi, I have yet to do all the related check to the KS (connections, grounds..) to understand why the code is intermittent set on my 1990 Vette.
But my question is related more on what the Code 43 will affect the normal driving.
on my chip I disabled the Knock Retard in PE (at WOT I have no timing removed).
I have not touched the timing removed while NOT in PE. So, I have timing removed if knock is detected while i'm in normal driving.
I'm running all the time Open Loop (I have disabled closed loop).
What I'd be happy to know is what happens to timing in general if the car is in a situation where the code 43 is present.
-Is still the timing removed accordingly to Table "MAX KNOCK RETARD WHILE NOT IN PWR ENRICH vs MAP"? at L8220>228 locations in ANHT hac??
-Or the max timing (around 20 deg) is allways removed because there is no feedback from the KS (that is supposing to not work because the 43 code)?
basically I'm asking if when the code 43 is present, there is a new routine that tell to the system to remove max timing and that says to the system to change others parameters (not necessarily related to timing).
I'm asking because I made a 100 miles run yesterday and I noticed that ALso the TC beahavoir seems a bit different. It seems that the amount of throttle (TPS) needed to UNLOCK the TC from a LOCKED situation it's much more less than the values I have in "TCC LOCK/UN-LOCK vs MPH.." at L833F location. (and this in a teoretical way is correct to avoid unnecessary load)..
Is there a place in the ANHT hac where I can find that the ECM will ignore normal beavhoir and it uses differend routines?
Thanks for your help.

Re: Code 43: I need clarifications (8D) - beahavoir when cod is present..
I was so sure on some reply......... If I need to add some additional info I'll add..
example: what IF I modify the FLAG of the 43 error?
for sure the Service Engine Soon in my dash will no more appears.
But what about the timing removed because of the 43 code? (considering that I don't care to use the KS ..I can even remove it ..)
Thanks in advance

I'm glad you saw the humor!
Wish I could help but I just don't know.
From what I read turning off the flag will only turn off the CEL. I think you have to much information and it's confusing guys with a simple answer.
What happens to timing with a code 43 CEL?

Re: Code 43: I need clarifications (8D) - behavior when code is present..
A quick look at the $8D code and it appears that an active code 43 uses the low octane routine to lower the SA. I know that other masks have a set amount of timing that is pulled when code 43 is active.
Looks like $8D does this by using the low octane routine.

Thanks Rbob ... you are always a big help!
basically when the 43 code is active is telling you that the KS is not working properly.
Obviously unchecking the flag of the error will not "heal" the KS.... LOL like uncheking a 32 code will not fix an EGR problem.
BUT, unchecking the 43 flag, the Low octane routines will take place the same??
