1226870 chip question
does the burn2 on motes website work with the stock eprom? also anyone know of any eproms i could buy that would fit?
if everything checks out I was planning on building an eprom eraser with one of these bulbs
http://www.purelyproducts.com/uv-bulbs/
petco has 6" UVC bulbs for 10$ from what i've read its a bit of overkill and might erase an eprom in under 5 min

Re: 1226870 chip question
i didn't notice the support site when i was on there the first time, my computer seem to have been badly modified (fan turns on at 140, advances the timing in the wrong places), I was watching from the aldl it still transfers at 160 BAUD so i'm assuming it still has the 85 ECM but if its necessary to solder in the G2 adapter then i need to make sure I don't already have it

Re: 1226870 chip question
the Burn2 does not officially support writing to any UV-erased PROM...
if it's possible, however, i wouldn't know... or try for that matter.

Re: 1226870 chip question
I did find other USB based eprom burners that would burn the stock chips but they were 300$+
but i don't think it would be worth buying unless it was 15$ since i'll be getting the 165 and eeprom in the future anyway

Re: 1226870 chip question
It still has the original chip, the board isn't modified other than the cover is missing, I ordered a True-USB Willem programmer(GQ-3X) based on what i saw on the website and what i saw on here, If i'm burning over an original chip will i need to worry about the memory location? i should just start at 000....? right?I'm going to test/practice with some spare 92 TBI truck chips I'm fairly sure they are 32k but other than that is of similar dimensions and packaging? I haven't seen one in awhile i need to dig them out of a box

Re: 1226870 chip question
when it comes to offsets, as long as the size of the BIN you are burning is the maximum capacity of the PROM, you don't need to worry about them.
essentially:
2732: 4KB
27C128: 16KB
27C256: 32KB
27C512: 64KB

Re: 1226870 chip question
i have 3 proms from tbi trucks.. and they all have 24 pins but they all look completely different... colors are different, the chip behind the window is different, and they seem to be made of different materials, one is from a 90 tbi g20 fan another is from a 90 c1500 and the last is one from a GMC van from 87... the 87 van and the 90 c1500 proms are the closest... they were all 350 chevy powered with 7747 ecms? I'm a bit confused why they are so diffrent

Re: 1226870 chip question
there were multiple versions of the 2732 made, and named as such, 2732A, 2732B, 2732C, etc....
due to this, it makes reprogramming them a difficult proposition. it's easier just to replace them with flash PROMs.

Re: 1226870 chip question
the one in my car and the c1500 chips are brown and flat the 87 van's is black and flat and the 90 van's chip is brown with the center raised, had a DELCO ABHC 7377 sticker? I like the 90 van's chip the prongs are thicker/stronger i'd much rather use that one if i can

The biggest issue with the 2732 PROMs (which Saar mentioned) is programming them. The pulse time and voltage varies, a lot. These were produced prior to the JDEC spec for PROMs was developed. And many don't have the manufacturer and device ID embedded in them.
So when it comes to programming them it is easy to destroy them with the wrong voltage & pulse times.

Re: 1226870 chip question
ahh alright, the programmer has the option of 3 different voltages/versions i'll start from the lowest and work up I did get to read the chip that's in the car last night and compare it to the "stock" configurations on moates website thankfully the frequency to air mass hadn't been changed but it was like i'd guessed from how it drives, he advances the timing when its under heavy load or whenever fuel is added he advances the timing... also changed one table that was all negatives to all positives of the same absolute value... and increased the idle rpm/coolant temp from 550 to 750 through most of the range then set the fan ON temp to 176 degrees C but it seems to turn at at 140 according to the data from the aldl
anyone know if highway mode is stock enabled in the 85? there are three values labeled for "disable" one is coolant temp another is rpm and the last is load value... the coolant temp is 59 degrees C the rpm is over 6k and the load value makes sense 100 it looks to me like its disabled

Re: 1226870 chip question
actually the really sturdy eprom has a part number? JL2732HS ? not sure what that means.. it was also made in Singapore and it has the number "25" after Singapore? any idea what company that may be from? i wish this thing was an EEPROM seriously you'd have to really try to break a pin off

Re: 1226870 chip question
ok used this little UV light was 20$ shipped for me.. 8 min and my prom was erased
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000ZKKMWG
Purely Products 5004B-P Hand Held Pocket Purifier, Black
i tried 2732B which was a little over 12 V for a write.. it failed.. so i tried 2732A which was 21v and it worked perfectly, the car is running amazingly with a near stock tune rather than the crazy tune that was on the chip it came with i just lowered the fan on to 190, changed the disable's on highway mode so i hope it will activate now and I changed the max mass air below 2000 rpm i set them all 50 g/sec higher since i'm hitting 90g/sec at 1700rpm and i was getting a 33 error for no reason(fixed)
thanks for all the help!!!! i can't wait till i'm ready to get a 165 and an eeprom for some real tuning
