Hypertech power chip
Hypertech power chip
Hi, last summer bought a 93 Caprice wagon and later found a Hypertech box in a rear storage compartment. In it was paper and a computer chip. The only thing readable on the chip is BATJ. This I believe to be a BCC. From info cleaned from various sources this chip should be a 16136975, 2732 with a mask of $62. Nowhere yet have I been able to find more info on this chip. I guess it is not a common vehicle so it is of little interest to the DIY community.
Interestingly the paper work inside the box gives a warning not to send the vehicle to a service department before re-installing the original chip as the technicians seeing a non-stock tune will overwrite the Hypertech chip thereby destroying it. This tells me the chip must be an EEPROM?
My guess is that they would use the ALDL socket to send the stock program to the ECM?
Does this not also indicate that the stock chip is also a EEPROM?
Thanks, Bram

Re: Hypertech power chip
Your stock chip is not an EEPROM & I highly doubt the Hyperchip is either.
