Error Code 43 with Modified V6 to V8 Memcal

I have modified a V6 memcal for a V8 TPI using a 1227727 ECM. I have the engine running on the engine stand. I'm getting an error code 43. I checked the knock sensor, 100K ohms. I have the knock sensor wire connected to pin A11. Could the modified V6 memcal cause the ESC error code 43?

Using the wrong knock sensor will cause a code 43.

I checked ohms with a parts store part ( 90 Vette - Standard Ignition KS6) 100K ohms. I'm thinking I have the correct knock sensor. I connected the parts store knock sensor to ground (external to the block) and plugged into the new knock sensor, and still got error code 43. Ohms on the knock sensor wire (ECM to knock sensor connector) is good at 0.03 ohms. I even tried using a V8 mencal, Ostrich emulator with a different 1227727 ECM, to see if maybe there was something else? I'm still getting a code 43. I can't think of anything else to try. (except eliminate code 43 from the PROM programming)

100K sounds high. IIRC it should be around 10 Kohm, for the V6 knock filter anyway.

Dave, there is a TPI troubleshoot GM manual at link below that will walk you through tests for code 43.

That is the wrong knock sensor. Take your DVM to the store and get one that measures 3.9K - 4K ohms.

Thanks RBob, I will figure out a part number for a 3.9K - 4K ohms Knock Sensor.

I figured because I was using a 1990 TPI roller 350 engine with the '7727 ECM, the correct Knock Sensor would / should be from 1990 Vette?

The application is correct, it is the wrong sensor for that application.

Re: Error Code 43 with Modified V6 to V8 Memcal

I figured out two things that will fix the error code 43.

1. Programming the PROM so Error Code 43 will not set.

2. Using 4.06K ohms of resistors instead of a Knock Sensor.

Today was not a good day to use a DVM at the parts store.
