NVSRAM and vista

Having issues getting the GUI to work in Vista. As in I click 'Upload Bin', nothing happens. Only command that seems to do anything is 'quit'

Following info here https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/diy-...ack-based.html

I found the link was dead, so navigating activestates website, I found this

http://www.activestate.com/activetcl/downloads

and downloaded the Active Tcl 8.4.19.5 (one from original link is 8.4.19.3)

then downloaded the tool that MonteCarSlow posted. It will open, but won't allow me to do anything.

I even followed the suggestion here

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/diy-...tup-tools.html

and even used firefox as suggested here.....

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/diy-...m-gui-not.html

Any insight? Perhaps it is some sort of setting within vista itself? I dunno......

I'd really like to be able to use my new(ish) laptop since my XP one is about to give up the ghost.... I can datalog with the new laptop, so something is going right.

thanks

-jason

Hrmm, was hoping someone could chime in here... this is a little over my head.

I managed to get datamaster and tunerpro working, just can't upload any changes until I resolve this issue....

and I've never used Vista before, so I am certain that its the problem.... or a loose connection between the seat and the keyboard lol

Re: NVSRAM and vista

Couple things that may help,
Check that you have the latest release of the RTPtools.
There was an original version that I had a problem getting to work, the second set worked easily. Not sure on the dates, my old one says 2005, the newer one is 2006 but I may have edited it so I'm not sure.
Anyway, try more than one of the tool sets to see if it works.

Maybe there is a way to run the Active Tcl in compatability mode as XP or something. You should be able to get the Wish.exe to open by association to the Active Tcl program.
Edit: Are you running 64 bit? There is a different installer for that.

If you do get it working, I found a neat way to use it within TP5.
Create a Custom tool
Name = NVSRAM Tools
Tool Path = C:\Tcl\Bin\Wish.exe (Substitute your actual path if needed)
Cmd Parameters = C:\ blah \ blah\ RTP4-Tool.Tcl (This file's location)
Create a keyboard shortcut in TP (What ever you like)

Do your edit, save the bin.
Then when you want to upload your bin, disconnect your logging connection and hit your hot key.
The dialog will come up and you can then dump your changed bin.
You can then close the NVSRAM tool and reconnect the logging.

Re: NVSRAM and vista

I had the same problem when I went to Windows 7.. Apparently you have to have the cable hooked up so that the GUI sees there is a open com port..

Re: NVSRAM and vista

Thanks for the replies

I am running 32 bit as far as I know.

I will check the compatibility mode for wish.exe, I kept trying to use it on the actual rtp4 tool.....

and I will also try connecting the cable to see what happens.

Thanks!
