I need to be able to tune a 305 tbi with a new cam! Calling all experienced tuners!

I currently have a 305 tbi bored .40 over with a new cam, factory tb, factory intake and heads have been ported & polished. Also I have a custom y pipe with shorty headers, and a flowmaster cat back.

The catchy part is that the cam is a bit big... specs are as follows:

intake: .462
exhaust: .470
center line: .110 (ouch!)

What would be the easiest way to tune this setup? I have heard of dynamic efi, tbichips.com, and also hawk's third gen.

The problem I am having is the car at idle is too low and stalling because the cam is so big. Any thoughts I would greatly appreciate it.

On a side note: Should I exchange to an open element air filter before of after tuning? Does it mattter?

Thanks again guys for your help!

Note the "not a referral service" in the tag line of the DIY_PROM board:

DIY PROM Do It Yourself PROM chip burning help. No PROM begging. No PROMs for sale. No commercial exchange. Not a referral service.

At the same time, Dynamic EFI is completely different then getting a chip done by someone else. If you want a tune done by someone else then best to ask on the DFI & ECM board or the TBI board.

The Dynamic EFI solution is usually a DIY tune. Which is welcome on this board.

The duration & lobe separation angle is more important then the center line and lift.

I was more looking for information on my options as to what type of setups are available for this application. Not needing someone to do it for me as I know this is a DIY board. I want to do it myself but was not sure how difficult tuning the a Dynamic EFI is. Does it come with a tutorial or tech support?

Thank you for the information Rbob.

Read all the stickies here, ECM and TBI forums and you'll be amazed at what's available!

Dynamic EFI is a wonderful ECM conversion and software for non stock engines and has excellent tech support!

Another Vote for Dynamic EFI...
Unless your take your car to a place where it can get tested / chip burned, the Dynamic EFI solution lets you do it yourself... much cleaner setup than Moates ALDL, Chip Read / Writer / Emulation / Chip switching, etc...
& I've found plenty great of help from members here and from Rbob.

what are the other specs on the cam? sounds a little mismatched on parts.. they are stock heads but worked over? did they remove the swirl port and put in bigger valves? its great for low end not high power. but they are still basically boat anchors as far as heads go.

the engine won't run well on the stock chip the idle is programed to low and the fueling will be off with a bigger cam..

First step is to datalog. winALDL is a good choice. You will need a cable. check EBay or better yet purchase from CraigMoates.
