How much does ECM original application matter?
How much does ECM original application matter?
I have a spare 7747 ECM I was thinking of setting up as a backup and keeping in the vehicle for emergency use. The one I have is ABUM and I have a 5.7L, so I know it doesn't match (I think ABUM is for a 6 cyl?). I'll be loading up my own EEPROM anyway though. So my main concern is the limp home feature. Would the ABUM ECM limp me home or would it be totally useless?

Re: How much does ECM original application matter?
Anyone know what EBL does, if anything, with regard to limp home? Is it just exactly the same as whatever ECM they started with? I've been going back and forth on whether to pull the trigger on that. If I did I think I'd just order a ready to go ECM.
Re: How much does ECM original application matter?
I uses a seperate calpack. V6 or V8. Use of incorrect one in my case made no diff unless the limp was needed(CE). Then the proper one was of some help but not much.
