I am missing something...
Alright, a little background first.
Doing a swap into a friends pickup, started with an 85 TPI setup off of a 305. Put the 85 intake/harness/ sensors/computer, everything, onto a 350 in the truck. Got it running, drove it for a while, decided he would switch to a 165 ECM to do some tuning.
Drove it over here, we switched out the harness for one from fuel injection connection. Put a new distributor and coil on it like the newer setups have. He has a computer from an 88 GTA. I had an extra adapter from moates and a 27SF512 chip, and stuck my factory 89 chip on the side of it, and threw it in. I burned a factory bin (apyn3496 6e), and turned the VATS off.
The truck doesn't seem to fire the injectors, Bt oddly, will start, run fine for a second, and die off of the cold start injector. If you unplug the 9th injector harness, nothing. How is that when the APYN doesnt have a 9th injector?
There isnt a SES light hooked up yet, but I stuck an ohm meter on the for it and it looks to be solid on when you turn the key on.
I stole the computer out of my camaro and tried it with no difference, even tried just the 89 factory chip just for grins. No difference, the 9th injector fires every startup, unless its unplugged.
I am questioning my chip burning abilities (which were not that great to begin with). I have burned a few and run my camaro off of an AUTOPROM and tunerpro. Its been a few years since I have messed with it though, and I think i have forgot most of the easy things.
Am curious if I have my checksum wrong maybe? or the offsets when I burn the chip. If I remember right tunerpro had the offsets preset for the 512 chip.
Ideas? I must be missing something here.

When using an AutoProm or Burn2, the settings should be autmatic when using Tuner Pro or Flash 'n' Burn.
If the CEL just comes on solid, then you are in limp home mode, if it flashes at key on, then it is running of the PROM.
Have you verified correct pins for the injector wiring? Checked for ignition at the injectors? Watched the ALDL stream at start up for anything odd (VATS pass/fail)?
Even in limp home mode it should fire and rough, albeit rough, but should be enough to at least run.
Check over the harness, make sure the TPS values are correct. If it is connected backwards, or the ground is disconnected the ECM will go into Clear Flood Mode.

Re: I am missing something...
I have not checked the harness over that well to make sure everything is wired correctly, was hoping I would not have to, the whole reason for buying a new harness was to make this easy. Silly me.
The light is on solid, so I guess it is in limp mode. But I agree it should still at least start.
The Injectors do have power to them.
Will check the TPS tomorrow, didnt think of that.
Is the TPS and the MAF the same for the 85-89 cars?
I dont think I can stream anything from the aldl. It only has three wires going to it on this new harness.

Re: I am missing something...
Cold start injector is not controlled by the ECM. Its all automatic. switch next to the temp coolant sensor activates it when cold.
Where did you get the APYN bin? you sure its good? I have a similar setup and ran into a bad 305/AT bin on the moates website.(was only 4k when it should of been a 16k Bin) I dont think it was an AYPN though...
a 165 ALDL connector should absolutely datastream.

Re: I am missing something...
Although, I'm not sure I'd go that way. Also, not sure if the burn-off requirements are the same.
Need to start at the beginning. Work on getting the ECM to run from the PROM. Look for the SES blink at key-on, engine-off.
Once that is working get a scan tool connected. Can then check the sensors for proper values. And see what injector PW the ECM is commanding.
Then try to start the engine. There is no sense in trying to get it to run in limp mode.
And since you are using $6E, unplug the cold start injector, it isn't needed and will only cause it to run rich.
RBob.

That makes way more sense that the 9th injector isn't controlled by the computer. Did not know that.
Its a copy of mine that I started with when I was messing around with my 89. I have a few different copies on my computer of the factory tune, I suppose it could have a problem, I will try a different one.
Oh, its not a factory harness, and not all the wires are there that the factory has in the aldl connector.
Thank you fo the info on the MAF, good to know that. Will look into the burnoff after it runs.
Good call on just turning the key on and watching for the blink first, Hopefully I get home from work at a decent time tomorrow to try some things. And get a CEL hooked up to it, little easier then using the ohm meter.
Thank you for the info and suggestions guys, it is appreciated.

Re: I am missing something...
Alright, so i double checked a bunch of stuff. Everything looked good.
Tried connecting the laptop to the truck to read codes and see if I could get any information. And i couldnt get tunerpro to connect with the aldl, kept saying "couldnt initialize port". So i just used the autoprom and shorted the A-B pins to get it to flash codes. I had the factory chip in it at the time just to try and get the computer to connect with the aldl port, and it was only flashing 12. So thats good. So I think that would eliminate the harness for the most part. Went back and started looking into problems with the burned chip. happened to notice a picture from moates websie with the chips and the adapters sitting next to each other. Noticed they were sitting the opposite way...I wonder...flipped the prom around in the zif socket. fired right up
Apparantly I forgot that you put the prom in the zif socket opposite of the way you put it in the autoprom. I even checked it multiple times to make sure it was right. It was right for what I thought was the right way in my head, it was just my head that wasnt right.
Thank you for your input guys, I learned a few things from your comments. I guess I shouldnt let it be so long before I mess with this stuff again. My memory apparently isnt so great with this.
Off to go make it run better now, wish me luck!
